镀铜钢绞线是铜覆钢绞线中的一种，是在钢导体的表面镀上一层0.254mm厚度的铜层。传统上，防雷接地导体多采用镀锌钢或纯铜，就导电性能和使用寿命来说，镀锌钢不如纯铜导体，但纯铜导体则价格昂贵，不如镀锌钢经济。
采用铜钢复合接地导体，既能像纯铜一样承载良好的导电性能，又有钢的强度，并且大大节省了工程材料造价。根据“集肤效应”，当接地导体表面铜层达到一定厚度的时候，钢芯载流微小，因此可以替代纯铜。艾力高公司采用电镀工艺，将纯度99.9%的铜覆盖覆盖到钢芯表面，制作铜覆钢钢绞线。
